Meet EJ Otero

Colonel Evelio “EJ” Otero, Jr. (US Air Force, Retired) was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to a family of iconic broadcast and University Professors.  His father, a Cuban immigrant, became the first television broadcast journalist at Telemundo in Puerto Rico and only the third in all Latin America.  While working in Washington D.C., Evelio, Sr., produced and became the first host of Voice of America-Radio Marti.  EJ’s Mother, a New York University Ph.D in communication, became the first woman television Director in Puerto Rico and one of the first in the United States. She was also a pioneering founder of the Republican Party in Puerto Rico.  It was EJ’s parents who instilled in their children a deep respect for the United States of America and conservative principles that fostered his commitment to hard work, education, and faith.

EJ Otero received a double major from Iowa State University, in Political Science and Journalism. He earned a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Troy University, and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Air War College.

After 28 years of military service, of which 14 years was in Tampa as a senior military officer at US Central Command and US Special Operations Command, Colonel Otero retired to pursue a career in private business after becoming frustrated at the President’s handling of military and foreign affairs, Presidential decisions he knows makes us less secure! Today, he is military and political media commentator, intelligence consultant and the Republican nominee for the U.S. House of Representative.

Colonel Otero was at US Central Command on September 11, 2001, where he helped define the intelligence structure for operation Enduring Freedom.  Henceforth, he was assigned to Qatar to co-lead building US Central Command Headquarters. Colonel Otero had three tours of duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He followed this with assignment to US Special Operations Command where Colonel Otero led negotiations with future Special Operations partners Colombia, Poland, France, Jordan, and the United Kingdom.  Colonel Otero understands that our values of patriotism, education, hard work, and pride are what have earned Americans respect as leaders throughout the world.

Colonel Otero knows that our security is dependent upon a strong National Defense and a strong Economy. He understands that the slide towards socialism in the past three years is unacceptable!  EJ will lead an initiative to structure a solid economy based on bringing capital and investment back to the U.S. through responsible fiscal principles, regulatory relief and trade.

EJ will also lead an initiative to reform Congress. He has seen firsthand, in the eyes of our soldiers, how political correctness and social experimentation is decimating our greatest institution – the US military. It is also his core belief that Congress should live by the same laws and benefits as we do. From his seat in Congress he will tirelessly fight to reform Congress!  EJ will not compromise our values.

From organizing intelligence support for our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq to negotiating agreements with allied countries, through his pentagon experiences with Congress and his private sector career as a commentator and business services representative, Colonel Otero has been a dedicated servant and businessman, not a professional politician.

Colonel Otero is honored to have received the Defense Superior Service Medal, four Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and two Joint Service Commendation medals while in the service of our Country. He also earned two Air Force Commendation medals, two Joint Services Achievement medals, an Air Force Expeditionary and Global War on Terrorism medal.  EJ Otero will be honored to serve us in Congress where he will lead on issues that insure our Security, Prosperity and Freedom while he works to restore honor in Congress.

EJ is a history buff, sports enthusiast, a PADI certified Rescue SCUBA diver and motorcyclist.  He attends Christ the King Church in Tampa, Florida with his family.
